Seamless Integration with Homey Pro
Homey Pro just got a big upgrade! The SmartWings app has officially landed in the Homey app store. This means your SmartWings shades and blinds can now integrate directly with Homey Pro—no workarounds required.

I had requested that Homey add the SmartWings Shades app shortly after I installed my Homey Pro hub. It took a little time, but here we are—the official SmartWings app is live!

Today, I’ll show you how I set up my advanced flow. This flow controls my SmartWings outdoor shades based on weather conditions and whether or not we are at home. But before we dive into the setup, let me explain why SmartWings has earned a permanent spot in my smart home after years of trying many other brands.
Why I Chose SmartWings
I’ve installed a total of seven SmartWings window coverings in my home—four Zigbee roller blinds and three Matter cellular shades. The very first SmartWings shade was installed at my kitchen sink, and that Zigbee roller shade has been running reliably for three years straight.

SmartWings makes all kinds of custom window coverings—roller, zebra, venetian, woven wood, plus a collection of outdoor shades. Their motors are whisper-quiet. You can power them by rechargeable battery with a solar panel or hardwire them.
Setting Up the SmartWings App
Now, let’s get back to Homey. The new SmartWings app supports Matter, Zigbee, and Z-Wave motors. When I migrated my outdoor Zigbee roller shades over from SmartThings, pairing to Homey was fast and painless. Once connected, I rebuilt my former SmartThings shade automation in a Homey Advanced Flow—and it’s actually an improvement!
On SmartThings, I had to chain together SharpTools rules to make it happen. But now, the automation is conveniently streamlined in one application.
How the Flow Works
Here’s how the flow works: Actions are triggered by the Sun’s position using the “Sun Events” app.

I also use the Heimdall app to check if anyone’s home. If not—there’s no need to drop the shades.

Next, it pulls data from the Open Weather app.

The flow examines temperature, wind, precipitation, and even the percentage of cloud cover. If it’s calm and clear, the shades lower one hour before golden hour begins. Golden Hour is the period shortly before sunset when the sunlight is softer and warmer. It’s generally about one hour before sunset.
But if weather factors are unfavorable, the shades remain up. And if conditions worsen while they’re down, the shades pop back up, and I get an instant notification. Pretty slick, right?
Replicating the Flow
If you’d like to replicate this flow, you’ll need to install the Open Weather app and obtain a free Open Weather API key. I’ve linked a former YouTube tutorial that walks you through the easy process of grabbing that API key. In the referenced video, I explain how to install the API key in the SharpTools app, but it’s the same process for Homey. You’ll just need to paste the key into the Open Weather app’s settings, and the app will set your location. You’ll be good to go!
Alright, if you'd like to see exactly how this flow looks in Homey, just click on the following video. It will take you to the section where I walk through the actions of the advanced flow...
I’m still tweaking my setup—adding forecast checks and even Echo announcements that tell me why the shades adjusted. So you can expect some fine-tuning down the road.
Conclusion
Bottom line: SmartWings now has official Homey support. If you’re looking for seamless smart shade control, this combo is hard to beat. Drop a comment with the automations you’d create. I’d love to hear your ideas! And of course, hit like and check out my other Homey automation guides.
